READING 3

  1. Read the headings in Mark 1:40-2:12.

  2. Find Capernaum on the map.

  3. Highlight verses 9-11 of chapter 2.

  4. Read Mark 1:40-2:12.

  5. Consider the following questions.

What is astounding about the leper coming to Jesus and making his request? (See Leviticus 13:45-46) What is significant about how Jesus healed him? (1:40-41)

Why did Jesus not want the leper to tell anyone what had happened? Was the leper obedient? (1:43-45)

Have there been times in your life when you have felt like a "leper"? How did healing come about? Have there been times when you have treated someone else like a leper?

With whose faith was Jesus impressed? (2:5)

What were you expecting Jesus to say to the paralytic in 2:5? Why did the scribes get so upset about what Jesus did say? (2:6-7)

Which really is easier to say to the paralytic: "Your sins are forgiven," or "Stand up and take your mat and walk"? (2:9)

In 2:10, does Jesus ever say that he is the "Son of Man"?  How do you know if he is or not?
